Walking the Walk, 9s DofE

19th May 2026

Over two separate weekends this month, 90 of our Year 9s headed off on their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh assessed expeditions – and what adventures they had! Bright and early, packs on backs, the groups caught the train to Gomshall, ready to put months of preparation into practice.

From Gomshall, it was walking all the way, following the routes they had planned themselves. Maps were checked, compasses were consulted, and teamwork was key as the groups navigated the countryside together. Of course, there were a few tired legs along the way, but plenty of encouragement (and snacks!) helped everyone keep going.

On arrival at the campsite the real independence challenge began. Tents had to be pitched, stoves set up, and dinner cooked – all by the students. After a night under the stars, it was back to the maps to find their way back to Gomshall station and home for a well deserved rest!

Well done to all the Year 9s for their resilience, teamwork and positive attitude – and a big thank you to the staff who supported them along the way. A brilliant step forward on their DofE journey!

(Check back after half term for photos of the second expedition happening on 22 May)
