11s Do Some Business on the Farm

16th November 2023

With climate change threatening established food production methods worldwide, it is more important than ever that our young people understand where our food comes from and what it takes to get to our plates, in order to safeguard future supply.

Our Business Year 11s were really fortunate to be able to visit the working dairy farm at Plumpton College in Sussex this week, for a Farming Food for You event providing insight into many aspects of the business of food production here in the UK. The sponsors AHDB (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board) worked with Leaf (Linking Education and Farming) to bring together a range of workshops and information stalls and an interactive competition to round off the day.

There was a really diverse collection from local farmers to multinationals, showcasing all kinds of technologies and opportunities within the sector, helping students relate their classroom theory to a real-world and hugely topical industry.
