Focus on Woodfield Education Centre

1st July 2025

Students in 7 and 8 Chaplin, who are part of the Woodfield Education Centre (WEC), have had a busy and exciting term, heading out on a number of fantastic school trips that brought learning to life in fun and creative ways.

First up, students from both Years 7 and 8 headed to the Science Museum in London, where they explored the amazing Wonderlab exhibit. With hands-on experiments and mind-blowing science shows, pupils got stuck into all things STEM. There was lots of excitement as everyone tried out the interactive stations which was definitely a highlight for many!

Next, they visited the Watts Gallery in Guildford, where they dived into the world of artist George Frederic Watts. They also learned about his wife, Mary Watts, and her incredible contributions to art and design. The visit included a trip to the beautifully designed Watts Chapel. A special shout-out to Mrs Scott, who led both the gallery tour and a fun workshop using plaster of Paris. Students had a great time getting creative and learning new art skills. They also explored the Scented Vision gallery, where the mix of art and smell created a truly one-of-a-kind sensory experience.

Finally, 8 Chaplin travelled to the Bluebell Railway to celebrate 200 years of railway history. It was a cross-curricular day packed with activities linking History, STEM and Careers education. Students explored exhibitions, hopped aboard historic trains, and took part in hands-on learning that made the past feel very much alive.

What a brilliant way to learn outside the classroom!
