Detours and Determination: 9s Bronze DofE

8th May 2025

Over the weekend of 2 and 3 May, 35 brave (and slightly sweaty) Year 9s set off on their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze assessed expedition.

With the sun blazing down, they left school and jumped on a train to Gomshall station. From there, they set off on their planned walking route through the Surrey countryside, heading towards the campsite in Walliswood. The views were beautiful, the weather was scorching, and the teamwork was amazing - even if a few groups might have added an extra few kilometres to their journey thanks to a couple of unexpected "scenic" detours!

Despite the heat, tired feet, and the occasional map mishap, everyone made it to the campsite in one piece, tents were pitched, meals were cooked (well, heated), and stories were shared. The resilience, determination, and good humour shown by the group was seriously impressive.

A huge well done to everyone who took part - you should all be proud of what you achieved (and how you survived that heatwave!).

Good luck to the second group heading out on the 23 and 24 of May - sun cream, snacks, and solid map skills are highly recommended!
