10s Artistic Adventure

3rd February 2026

Last week, our Year 10 GCSE Art students swapped the classroom for the beautiful surroundings of the Watts Gallery Artists’ Village!

The group explored three different exhibitions as well as the main collection, taking in an incredible range of artwork. From dramatic paintings to intricate sculpture and decorative arts, students had the chance to see up close the kinds of techniques, textures and themes that will help inspire their own coursework projects.

But the highlight for many was the hands‑on Modroc relief tile workshop. Guided by the gallery’s artists, students rolled up their sleeves and created their own textured tiles using Modroc, experimenting with form, surface and pattern. There were lots of messy hands, lots of laughter and, most importantly, some fantastic pieces coming together.

All the work produced during the workshop will be added to their sketchbooks and will count toward their 60% GCSE coursework, so students left not only with new skills but with strong, meaningful material to support their projects.
